The Number 1 Thing You Need to Know for Health and Fitness Success in 2019
February 4, 2019
Now, I’m sure you’re expecting this to be a very complicated thing. But it’s not.
By far, the thing that is going to get you the most success with your health and fitness in 2019 is management of your calorie intake… or the amount of food you’re taking in on a daily basis.
That’s it. It’s really that simple. Though it may not be easy.
We are asked this question all the time in our groups, on our page, through our clients…
And it really is a great deal about nutrition.
Now’s the time to ask yourself how 2019 is going… have you stuck to your resolutions? Are you being consistent with all the things you need to do to reach your goals?
OR, are you sliding back into old habits and struggling to maintain your resolve?
Remember… the definition of insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, and expecting a different result. If you want 2019 to be a better year than 2018 was, you need to make sure you have some small steps and processes in place to insure your success.
And the number 1 thing, in terms of achieving body composition success and results is staying on top of your nutrition and food intake.
In a study performed by Ben Carpenter, he found that people over-report their physical activity by 51% and that they UNDER-report their calorie intake by 47%... that’s a recipe for disaster.
People aren’t moving as much as they think they are, and they are eating much more than they think they are.
So if one of your resolutions was to lose weight, put some real effort into tracking the amount of food that you eat on a daily basis.
Now, I’m not saying that you should meticulously track and weigh your food all the time. That would put many people off the idea of managing their nutrition and intake. BUT, it IS a really good idea to have a clear picture of how many calories you should be taking in daily, and what that looks like in terms of serving sizes, as well as kinds of food.
Most people going into 2019 with wellness goals, are actually looking to drop body fat. They want to lose weight or change the shape of their bodies.
In order to do that, you need to be in a calorie deficit consistently. Over an extended period of time.
So, find a calorie calculator. Put in your height, weight, activity levels etc, and that is going to give you an amount of calories you should be taking in on a daily basis.
Next, create a plan to fill those calories out. It really is that simple.
If you are not dropping the weight you want to drop, most of the time your metabolism isn’t broken, there’s nothing out of whack… you are just eating too much and not being active.
Ben Greenfield suggests that for one week of the month, people track their food. Keep a food diary or use MyFitnessPal. This will give you a visual idea of how much food you are taking in every day, and familiarize you with portion sizes, etc. As I said, it’s not something you need to do forever, but it IS important that you track
your food long enough to have a very clear picture of where your calories are coming from and how much you are actually eating.
And that is the ONE thing that is most important to losing weight in 2019.
