3 Essential Tips to Make Sure You Stay on Track But Still Enjoy Christmas
December 14, 2018
Everyone is busy with the holidays! Decorating, shopping, work parties… family gatherings…
Maybe you think it would just be easier if you took the month off from the gym. You shouldn’t. And I’m going to tell you why…
I had a guy come up to me today and shake my hand. And he was laughing… I asked him what was so funny and he said that I was the reason he had even come into the gym. Off the back of the video I did last week about putting yourself on the other side of the work. Mapping out how many sessions there were between now and Christmas Eve.
If you take the time off, slack and give in, you’re going to feel worse.
Now that we’re into December, now is an important time to think about how you’re going to attack December, and more importantly, how you’re going to attack the new year. Don’t go into the new year like those mornings when your alarm clock goes off late and you jump out of bed, frantic, stressed and rushed. As a result, you feel like you are playing catch-up for the whole day.
Well don’t let that day become a WHOLE YEAR. Scrambling… where am I going to train? What am I going to do? Where will I find a coach? You’re setting yourself up to be chasing your tail for the whole YEAR, for a stressful and frazzled year. 90% of people who say they are going to get fit in the new year are going to do that, and if you do the same thing, you are setting yourself up for the same results… or lack of.
Just making a plan now sets you up to go into the new year calm, collected and confident because you have put the action steps in place to support your own success. It helps you stay consistent over the holidays and keeps you from falling too far behind.
So, our tips for staying on track and still enjoying Christmas?
Accept the fact that you are going to go mad over the holidays! And you SHOULD go mad! You’re going to overindulge. You SHOULD overindulge. I want you to! Have fun! BUT, do it guilt-free.
It’s very tempting to start slacking on your training… BUT it’s not Christmas yet! All the way up to Christmas Eve, get your training sessions in! Do it! Those repetitions will stand with you in the new year. You’re going to be taking in extra calories… make your training sessions HARDER! Everyone else is slowing down… but you need to RAMP UP! This way, I will have earned my time off of training from December 24th - January 2nd. I will have put the work in.
Create your plan. Plan when you’ll go mad, and plan when you’ll get back on it. Know that you’ll have free time to just enjoy the holidays with your friends and family, but also know when playtime is over, and you will get back at it! We all know when you take a holiday, it can be hard to shake it. It can be hard to get back into the rhythm of daily life.
But, with a plan in place, you KNOW you have to do it. You KNOW when you’ll be getting back to it. You are mentally prepared to return. And then STICK to your plan. Know where you’ll train, who you will be training with, what you’ll be training for, and how you’ll be training. Your plan is your road map from point A to point B.
So there they are! Your top 3 tips to enjoy Christmas AND stay on track with your health and fitness. Make a plan. Man up. Let’s get to it!
