Being consistent, with whatever it is you are trying to achieve, will beat everything else! Results follow consistency.
Here are 5 tips to help you remain consistent:
Keep your eye on the ‘why’--- everyone starts things for a reason. Constantly remind yourself of the reason you are doing the thing, so you stay focused. For fitness, maybe you said you want to drop two dress sizes, but the REASON behind that is the ability to keep up with your kids. OR, maybe you want to ‘get in better shape’ but the REASON behind that is because you want to live longer and be a role model to your family members. Whatever it is, find your reason and keep it in sight.
Pick one thing at a time. Don’t try and do too many things at once. Don’t try to get fit, quit junk food, drink water and stop smoking all at once. It’ll get overwhelming and you’re setting yourself up to fail at one or all of the things.
Schedule. Schedule. Schedule. You have to schedule everything. Schedule the important things into your weeks. Know when you’re training, where you’re training, what times you’ll be there… and have a training plan. Don’t waste time scheduling some time for yourself at the gym, only to get there and wander around for 20 minutes because you don’t know where to start!
Don’t be a pussy. Harsh, I know… but fair. Don’t listen to yourself. There are going to be days where you are tired, or you’ve worked hard and your inner voice tells you to take a day off of training, or it’s too cold to get out of bed and you’ll do it tomorrow. When you start to feel this way, remember EVERYONE goes through this. Don’t listen to yourself! Push through this and when you don’t feel like it… DO IT ANYWAY. Stay consistent.
If you fall off the schedule, do NOT fall off the whole wagon. One day does not determine the outcome… the sum of all days does. If you miss a day, get back on track the next day. Don’t allow a single missed day to sabotage your entire plan. Success doesn’t come from what you do occasionally, it comes from what you do CONSISTENTLY.
Consistency, over ALL else, is what gets you to the finish line.
