Vacations are meant to be enjoyed! They are a change from the normal routine and an opportunity to do things, eat things, and enjoy things that you may not often have the chance to see, do or eat… but, that can have its consequences… one of which is losing momentum on your fitness journey.
So, here are a few tips to allow you to both keep up your momentum AND enjoy your vacation…
Take the stairs. Whenever possible, take the stairs. This simple, easy ‘hack’ will keep you more active.
If wherever you are going is less than a mile away… WALK. Not only will this allow you to experience more of the place you are visiting, but also act as a little bit of exercise just to keep you moving.
Pack a lunch. Don’t ‘hope’ the snack stand at the beach will have something that fits into your diet… plan ahead! You don’t have to eat out for every meal of the day, and keeping at least one meal clean and healthy will help you slip right back into your healthy eating upon your return home!
Involve your family and friends! Don’t just do these things by yourself… it’s more fun if it’s done as a group! Your kids will thank you for the great example you set eventually, I promise!
Make it a game! For every ‘naughty’ thing you do, you have to counteract it with something healthy. Ate an ice cream covered in hot fudge? No problem! Do 50 bodyweight squats! Drank a pint? It’ll be fine… right after you do 10 push-ups!
Get enough sleep. Now, maybe you are going to bed as the sun is coming up while you are on vacation… and that’s totally fine! Just make sure you get in enough sleep during the day to make up for it!
Most importantly though, have FUN! Even if you fall COMPLETELY off the wellness wagon and roll away from it, downhill, into another country… you will be home eventually. You’ll have a lot of work to do to get back to the wagon, but you can get there… and you’ll have loads of great memories from your vacation!
