We just finished some 6 week tests with our new members, following their introduction 6 weeks of training. We do this to track how well their program is working for them and to make changes if necessary to make sure our clients reach the goals they set.
And the results have been ah-mazing! What struck me with these members though, is how they kept mentioning inspiration, motivation and fear.
Six weeks ago, most of these new members were unhappy with where they were as far as their wellness, but had a fear about joining a gym… or had a fear about working out… or even about changing their diets. They thought it would be too hard, or the regulars at the gym would judge them… or maybe even that they wouldn’t be able to stick to a plan.
Fear though, is not real. It’s in our minds. It’s a response to stimuli meant to keep us safe… a throwback from caveman days. But we aren’t cavemen anymore and there are no saber tooth tigers lurking inside the gym doors. Sometimes, our fear is simply a condition in our own heads.
On the other side of fear are all the best things in life. You just have to get through your fear to get them. Our new members kept asking…”Why did I wait so long and allow this fear in my head keep me from doing this earlier? What was I so scared of?”
Start attacking the things in life that scare you! Get over that fear. Not only will you see some improvements in that area of your life, but you will begin to see improvements in other aspects of your life as well.
How do I do that? Well, you take the first step. And then you take another. And you keep going.
Everything worth doing is hard work. You won’t necessarily succeed the first time. You may fail over and over again. But, in overcoming your fear and doing the work… you make massive changes that ripple across your entire life.
