With the launch of Urban Yoga over at Urban fitness, I wanted to talk a bit about some of the endless benefits of this ancient exercise. It's excellent as a stand-alone practice or alongside your regular gym routine. I use yoga daily in my life and hope that this helps you guys see why.
Yoga will start to improve your body after even just one class. With the focus on controlled breathing and slow thoughtful execution, after class you’ll have lowered your stress levels, improved your brain function by boosting your memory and focus and you'll even be on your way to bring more flexible already.
After a few months of doing yoga regularly you'll really start to notice some amazing changes. Physically it improves your strength and stamina, it can lower your blood pressure, increase your lung capacity and improve your sense of balance. Many have also experienced relief from chronic back or neck pain, lowered anxiety and even increased sexual function (could have ended the blog here eh, but wait there's more).
The great thing about practicing yoga is it's an exercise that can grow with you. People keep up with it well into old age and reap the benefits of doing so. After years of regularly doing yoga, you can maintain a healthy weight, lower your risk of heart disease and a pilot study done in 2009 found that practicing yoga regularly could even increase bone density in older adults.
