Have you been going to the gym for a while, but don’t seem to be getting any closer to reaching your goals? Many of us feel this way, but often are unsure as to why we aren’t hitting our goals as we seem to be doing everything right. We are going to the gym, getting our steps in, and hitting our calories – so why aren’t we reaching our goals? Here at Urban Fitness we want to explore with you just a few of the reasons why you might not be hitting your goals at the gym.

Eating Too Much or Too Little
One reason as to why you may not be hitting your gym goals could be because you are either eating either too much or too little. How much and what you eat will be completely dependent on what you are looking to achieve, but often we find ourselves either over or underestimating the amount of calories we are eating which can be detrimental to our goals. To ensure that you are working towards reaching your goals, it is best if you know how many calories you should be consuming and stick to them as much as you can. This will make a huge difference in your progress if you aren’t currently focusing much on your diet and how much you are eating.
Are you being consistent? This could be either with your gym sessions, your diet, your cardio, or your steps. Consistency is key, and a lack of consistency is one of the main reasons as to why so many people find it difficult to reach their goals. Often people jump on and off the fitness bandwagon constantly, or they stick to their goals a few days a week and the other days completely fall off track. We don’t get the results we want overnight, and we don’t get the results we want by being inconsistent. Consistency is king when it comes to hitting your goals at the gym and should never be overlooked.
Not Moving Enough Throughout the Day
If you are looking to lose body fat and feel like you aren’t progressing, another factor to consider could be how much you are moving throughout the day – especially if you work a sedentary job. How much you move throughout your day will impact your NEAT – which stands for non-exercise activity thermogenesis – which sounds complex but essentially means how much energy you use on activities that aren’t at the gym. By increasing the amount you move, through activities such as walking more, you can increase your NEAT and burn more calories which will help you to achieve your weight loss goals much easier.
